CLEST reactivates the previously closed Arkansas Police Department

In April, the Arkansas Division of Law Enforcement deactivated the Hughes Police Department for failing to meet the state’s law enforcement standards. However, state officials did not say which CLEST standards the department failed to follow.

Department officials met with Hughes Mayor Lincoln Barnett on April 19 to discuss how to bring the department back into compliance, according to a news release.

“We had a positive, productive discussion and Hughes city officials cooperated fully,” CLEST Director Chris Chapmond said in April.

Barnett informed the commission of the department’s plans to resolve the noncompliance at its regular meeting on May 9.
