Kashaan Parks was convinced by his mother to report his alleged crimes to the police.

A New York man who was caught on video allegedly raping and choking a woman with a belt has been arrested. His mother claims she helped with his arrest by convincing him to turn himself in.

In the viral video, Kashaan Parks allegedly attacked a woman who was walking in the Bronx on May 1st. He covered his face with a white towel and strangled her with a belt until she lost consciousness. According to police, he dragged the victim between two cars where he raped her. Yahoo News reports that surveillance footage captured the entire ordeal.

However, Parks evaded arrest for over a week until his mother intervened. When Parks’ wife received a call about her son’s actions, the concerned mother tried to bring justice.

“I am his mother who reported him,” the mother said New York Post on May 11th. “I found out about it yesterday morning at 5:12 a.m. and I’ve been trying to get my son to do the right thing ever since. And I did.”

Parks told the news outlet that her son recently had a child of his own but was struggling with unemployment and the sudden death of his father. The alleged rapist also shared another child with his wife.

She continued: “I demanded that my son be held accountable for his actions, whether he was drunk, whether he was using drugs, whether he was grieving. He did something wrong and he has to deal with it. Period.”

Furthermore, the mother expressed remorse to the victim and asked for forgiveness for her son’s misdeed.

“I am a woman and I am sorry that this happened to this person,” said the 56-year-old. “I have to open and close my eyes every day and ask God to make sure this person is okay and for forgiveness for my son. “Whatever she has to live with, I will have to think about it for the rest of my life.”

Parks has been arrested twice, including one for assaulting another woman in the Bronx. He is now facing charges including first-degree rape, assault, strangulation and sexual abuse.
